Butter Tart Festival Coming Up This Weekend!

Great live music, coffee, tea and butter tarts!  50/50 draw too!

Coffee/tea $1, 6 butter tarts for $10 or 1 for $2.  50/50 tickets $2 each or 3 for $5.

Contest Cancelled - Sale still on

Due to a lack of entries for our Butter Tart Contest we have made the decision to cancel the contest portion of the festival.

We will still have delicious butter tarts, tea and coffee available for purchase.  Come on in and enjoy the wonderful live music and a treat!

Butter Tart Festival 2023 Rules and Conditions

Contest date is May 13, 2023 and the decision of our judges is final.

The contest will be open for entry on April 10, 2023.  Entry forms will be available at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Caledonia or on our website: stpaulsbuttertartfestival.blogspot.ca. Contest entry fee is $5.00

Contest entry deadline is May 5, 2023.  Completed forms and entry fee can be mailed or dropped off in person during our office hours (Mon to Thurs 9 am to 12 pm).

Butter tarts for the contest must be delivered in person to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 27 Orkney St. E., Caledonia on Friday May 12, 2023 between 3pm and 7pm.

The judging will take place May 13, 2023.  Winners will be notified by telephone if they are not in attendance.

Contest open to amateur/home bakers only.  If you make your living making and selling baked goods, you do not qualify as an amateur/home baker.

Categories: Traditional – plain, raisin, nut, maple
                      Wild Style – still a butter tart, but you’ve added a twist with a non-traditional ingredient
                                            or two

1.       The contest is open to any amateur/home baker who is 18 years of age or older.

2.       Tarts must be made by the person listed on the application.

3.       Entry applications must be accompanied by the entry fee.

4.       The entry fee is $5.00 per flavour, with a limit of one entry per baker per flavour.

5.       Each entry will be assigned a number, thus enabling a “blind” judging.  No judge or contestant may be privy to their assigned number during the contest.  Contestants who attempt to learn their assigned number(s) will be asked to leave, forfeiting their entry and entry fee. 

6.       Entries will be disqualified for the following reasons, and at the sole discretion of the festival staff and judging panel:
        Branding or identification on butter tarts
        Indication that tarts submitted have not been prepared by the entrant whose name appears on  
        the application
        Indication that the pastry is not homemade
        Tarts are not regular size (no mini or bite-size)
        Tarts are not delivered to the contest by an adult
        Fewer than the specified number of tarts submitted
        Incomplete contest entry form or unpaid entry fee

7.       Butter tarts will be evaluated by a panel of judges on Saturday May 13, 2023 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Caledonia.

8.       Evaluation will be determined based on a pre-determined written judging criteria.  First, second and third place winners will be selected from both categories.  Best overall butter tart will be chosen from all winners.

9.       No contestant tarts will be sold.

10.   Entrants unconditionally grant the corporation of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Caledonia the rights to all image media of their entry and of the accompanying adults in whole or in part, for any advertising or promotional purposes whatsoever in any and all types of media.  The entrant’s name will be included whenever it is used.

11.   Entries should be delivered in DISPOSABLE CONTAINERS.  Please do not submit your entries in anything other than a disposable container as we will not be responsible for returning any Tupperware, service trays, muffin tins, etc.  Please have your entry packed and ready for submission PRIOR to your arrival at St. Paul’s.

12.   Entrants must deliver 4 of the same butter tart per entry. 

13.   Registration will take place by delivering your application to St. Paul’s Anglican Church Caledonia either in person or via mail and must include payment of the entry fee.  There will be no refund of entry fees if a registrant does not deliver their tarts on the appropriate day and/or time or cancels their participation in the contest.  Entry forms and payment must be received by May 5, 2023.

New this year! Gluten Free Tarts!

You can pre-order gulten free butter tarts!!  We will be taking orders up to September 10th for gluten free plain, raisin and pecan butter tarts.  

$12 per half dozen and we ask that you also pre-pay either by e-transfer to stpaulscaldonations@gmail.com or by stopping in to the church office Monday to Thursday 9 to noon.
